چکیده

We present a simple methodology to design isotropic triangular shell finite elements based on the Mixed Interpolation of Tensorial Components (MITC) approach. Several mixed-interpolated isotropic triangular shell finite elements are proposed. We perform well-established numerical tests and show the performance of the new elements. 2004 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

The quadratic MITC plate and MITC shell elements in plate bending

0965-9978/$ see front matter 2009 Elsevier Ltd. A doi:10.1016/j.advengsoft.2009.12.011 * Corresponding author. E-mail address: [email protected] (K.J. Bathe). The analysis of plates can be achieved using the quadratic MITC plate or MITC shell elements. The plate elements have a strong mathematical basis and have been shown to be optimal in their convergence behavior, theoretically and numerically. Th...

The MITC3 shell finite element enriched by interpolation covers

In this paper, we develop a scheme to enrich the 3-node triangular MITC shell finite element by interpolation cover functions. The MITC method is used for the standard and enriched displacement interpolations. The enriched 3-node shell finite element not only captures higher gradients but also decreases inter-elemental stress jumps. In particular, the enrichment scheme increases the solution ac...

A triangular six-node shell element

We present a triangular six-node shell element that represents an important improvement over a recently published element [1]. The shell element is formulated, like the original element, using the MITC procedure. The element has the attributes to be spatially isotropic, to pass the membrane and bending patch tests, to contain no spurious zero energy mode, and is formulated without an artificial...

3 D - Shell Elements and Their Underlying Mathematical Model

We focus on a family of shell elements which are a direct generalization of the shell elements most commonly used in engineering practice. The elements in the family include the effects of the through-the-thickness normal stress and can be employed to couple directly with surrounding media on either surfaces of the shell. We establish the “underlying” mathematical model of the shell discretizat...

A Locking-free Three-node Shell Finite Element Formulation

A simple triangular shell finite element with fifteen degrees of freedom for the analysis of general shell structures is presented in this work. The element uses a substitute transverse shear strain field to avoid locking, and is formulated on the basis of RSDS-element (Resultant Stress Degenerated Shell Element) approach, which leads to very simple strain-displacement expressions. The substitu...
